PTFE (Teflon) washers
Virgin and glass-filled PTFE washers, seals and spacers cut to drawing. Made by Habib Brothers in Mumbai, OD 5–200 mm, to your drawing.
Materials
- PTFE (Teflon)
- Glass-Filled PTFE
Used for
- Seals and washers in chemical and process lines
- Electrical insulation where heat and chemicals are present
- Low-friction spacers and thrust washers
Choosing the grade
PTFE resists almost every chemical, takes heat and insulates well.
Its weak point is creep: under a steady high clamp load, PTFE slowly flows and the joint can loosen. Glass-filled PTFE creeps less.
Virgin PTFE (bright white, fresh resin) and reprocessed PTFE (reground scrap, often off-white) can look almost identical but perform very differently. For electrical, food-contact or chemical-seal parts, specify virgin.
Questions
What is the difference between virgin and reprocessed PTFE washers?
Virgin PTFE is made from fresh resin and gives PTFE's full chemical, heat and electrical properties. Reprocessed PTFE is made from reground scrap; it is cheaper but its properties are lower and less predictable. If a drawing just says PTFE, ask which one.
