What does Habib Brothers make?

How do I measure a washer?
Three numbers: the outer diameter (OD) across the outside edge, the inner diameter (ID) of the hole, which is not the same as the screw size, and the thickness (T) measured on a flat area. Write it as OD × ID × T in millimetres. If you are unsure, send a sample.
Does a new washer size need new tooling?
Not always. Habib Brothers has a rack of dies built over decades, and often the size a customer needs is already on the shelf. If a new die is needed, the cost is quoted with the rate.
What is the size range?
Outer diameter 5–200 mm and inner diameter 2–190 mm, plus custom shapes cut to drawing.

Which rubber should I use for a washer in engine oil?
Nitrile (NBR) is the usual choice for mineral oils and fuels. EPDM is excellent for water, steam and weather but swells in mineral oil, so it should not be used in oil. Choose the rubber by the fluid the washer will touch, not by how it looks.
Why do nitrile washers crack outdoors?
Nitrile is attacked by ozone and sunlight. Over time the exposed surface develops fine cracks. For outdoor or weather-exposed parts, EPDM or neoprene is often the better choice if there is no oil contact.
Why do bakelite washers crack during assembly?
Hard insulators such as bakelite (phenolic) do not give under load. If the screw is driven too hard, the washer splits. Lowering the driver torque, adding material around the hole, or moving to a tougher insulator such as vulcanised fibre usually solves it.
